Soda Bread

 

 

Ingredients:
3 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
8-10 fluid ounces sour milk, or buttermilk

Directions:

Preheat the oven to 450 F. Sift the dry ingredients together several times in a big bowl. make a well in the center. Pour about three-quarters of the buttermilk or sour milk and begin to stir. Add more liquid a little at a time being careful not to get dough to wet. Dough should be soft and dry. Blend ingredients by kneading dough for about 30 to 45 seconds. Shape the dough into flat round and place on a flour dusted baking sheet. Cut the shape of a cross over the top of the dough.

Place in oven. For the first 10 minutes at 450 F, then decrease to 400 F.
